There are many arguments for buying a shortboard: compact, handy shape, little storage space required, transport e.g. B. in the backpack and usually a lower price than the longboard version.
The Wave*, however, takes the advantages to the extreme. With the board, Exway brings an absolute heavyweight onto the market that sets the bar incredibly high for affordable shortboards. The battery
Exway already has a big advantage over the competition here: The Wave has replaceable batteries. The change takes place without annoying tools and in just a few seconds. The battery is snapped into place on the bottom of the board and the ride can continue.
According to the manufacturer, the 6Ah battery* should achieve a range of 18 km, we reached around 24 km. Presumably Exway really did a test here on the open road and didn't test the board in the laboratory like the other manufacturers. Either way, 24km is a great value for a shortboard. But once again as a reminder: thanks to the simple change of the battery, the range can be extended incredibly quickly as desired.
The deck
With the dimensions 76.2cm * 26.8cm it is a normal shortboard. The deck is comfortable and the griptape prevents it from slipping. It has a slightly parabolic shape, so the feet have the largest possible contact surface even on the narrow board.
Rarely is the kick tail at the end of the deck, which means: after reaching the goal, just a kick and you're holding the board in your hand. No more annoying bending, the Wave is designed for maximum comfort.
Extra: die Rückbeleuchtung!
Another drop from the competition: the standard taillights! The rear lights can be personalized in many different ways via the Exway app: a brake light like when driving a car? Possible! A permanent light? Of course also possible! Do you want to play through many different colors? Set what you want, the Wave makes it possible.
Front lights can also be supplied for ~45€, which is incredibly advantageous when cruising through the night. Potholes can be recognized much earlier and it is much easier to react in good time. Overall, a big plus for driving safety!
Overall, developments like these show that Exway didn't just want to launch another shortboard with the Wave, but an innovative e-board with great new features to offer customers a completely new riding experience.
The motors
The Wave comes with 4230 160kV motors, either hub or belt driven. The board hands over the decision as to how much power should be available entirely to the driver: the two engine versions deliver constant power, performance drops are not noticeable while driving.
Overall, the board reaches a top speed of up to 38km/h, which can easily be reached at full throttle. In fact, it's unrealistic that such a speed is often ridden, because such high speeds on such a small board are (extremely really) insane. But if you like driving at such speeds, you should grab the Wave Riot, here the brakes are correspondingly sharper.
The ESC
What we like most about the ESC from the Exway Wave*: You can personalize almost everything. From acceleration curves to braking strength in each gear, from turbo settings to cruise control settings, there is so much that can be adjusted. Another feature is the standby time: how long should the battery last when not in use until it discharges itself to protect the capacity? The ESC offers incomprehensible possibilities.
Incidentally, this makes the board particularly beginner-friendly: If you want to approach e-skating a little more gently and don't want to demand full power from the board, you can simply switch to beginner mode in the app and familiarize yourself with the board with a lower power output - on huge plus.
Tires
The link between the driver and the road is provided by Exway's black-colored, branded 85mm tyres. The tires are simply perfect for driving on paved surfaces. Sufficient bearing surface on the road, so far-reaching grip, which makes reliable cornering possible at high speeds.
Other tires should be chosen for other surfaces, since Exway offers a whole range of other tire types. Please note, however, that depending on the type of drive (hubs/belt drive), not every tire can be fitted. Tires from ICloudwheels* are compatible, especially the 105mm Cloudwheels* are a real dream to drive.
Conclusion
With the Wave, Exway has brought a true comfort hit onto the market. The board is particularly impressive in terms of flexibility and user-friendliness. We recommend the board for all driver profiles, especially because of the strong personalization via app. The Wave shows where electric skateboards can go in the future: to become loyal companions in everyday life.
