  • Ratgeber Elektro Skateboard Kit

Would you like to assemble your own electric skateboard and are you looking for the necessary tips? In our guide you will find everything you need to know about electric skateboard kits and kits for e-skateboards. 1. What parts do I need? Basically, the structure of a skateboard is easy to understand and always consists of the same three parts: A deck for standing and steering, a set of skateboard wheels - which can differ greatly in composition and properties - and two wheel suspensions, so-called trucks, which carry the wheels with connect to the deck. Electric skateboards have three additional components: a battery to store energy, an ESC (Electronic Speed Control) to control the power output and an electric motor to accelerate and brake. In the following we will go into more detail about the individual parts: Deck The deck is the direct link between you and the board. There are different types of skateboard decks that differ fundamentally in terms of handling. Among other things, there are drop-down decks that lower the driver's center of gravity by bending to the driving surface and thus improve cornering behavior and stability. There are also decks with so-called flares, which also simplify steering and reduce the turning circle. Find longboard decks on sale here.* The skateboard wheels Skateboard wheels are the only component on a skateboard that actually touches the ground. They ensure traction and at best prevent the board from slipping away. In addition to the normal road tires, there is a whole range of off-road tires to make progress on different surfaces. You can find a selection here:* Trucks The wheel suspension is an important component on a skateboard: it has a significant influence on steering behavior and driving stability. If the trucks are adjusted too loosely, so-called "speed woobles" can occur - the board rocks at high speeds, which in most cases leads to dangerous accidents. Depending on the type of drive of the electric skateboard, a certain wheel suspension must be used here, more on that later. Battery With the battery you store the energy for your board. Depending on how much charge your battery can hold, you can expect a longer or shorter range. In fact, the battery can be the most expensive part of the entire e-board. Normal battery packs, such as those used in RC toys, can be used. A link to the proven WowGo battery can be found here.* With the code "germany" you also save 5€!* ESC The Electronic Speed Control serves as a control element for power output. The ESC is in lively exchange with the remote control and works according to user input. Especially when building your own, special attention should be paid to the electronic control element. Click here for the best choice.* Power unit In the world of electric skateboards, there are two distinct types of drives: hub-driven and belt-driven boards. With the hub drive, the motor is in the actual tire, with the belt-driven skateboard, an external motor is used, which is connected to a toothed belt. The latter type of drive usually has better performance compared to the hub drive. Is there an easier way? Electric Skateboard Kits! With kits for electric skateboards you can save several steps when building your own e-board. In most cases, the kits offer the assembled ESCs and wheel suspensions with integrated electric motors, so that the complicated electronics part is already taken care of during assembly. Most manufacturers offer such bundle packages, you can find a selection here.* 2. Building an electric skateboard As soon as all the necessary parts are available, the actual construction can begin. It is important to identify and rectify possible material damage during assembly and to minimize disruptive factors such as friction or wear. Here's a little guide: Prepare the deck As already described, the deck forms the intermediate piece between the driver and the e-board. Drill enough holes for the trucks, ESC and battery mounts. In addition, now is the best time for customization, that is: paint - decorate - decorate as you like it. Assemble the prepared axles With prepared electric skateboard kits, you now have an easy game: mount and tighten the trucks to the level you want. Also think about how you want to route the cables from the motor to the ESC. Ideally, obstacles such as stones or uneven ground have no chance of affecting the electronics. Mount and connect the ESC and battery Attention: Never connect the battery first and then the ESC. You should first bolt the ESC to the deck, route the electronics to the motor, and then proceed with a test. The cables to the ESC should also be checked again: Do you see any "kinks" or damaged insulation? All this could lead to a cable break at a later date. The first test drive Caution: Many ESCs require a training phase before the first ride, where acceleration and braking are calibrated. You should do this before your first ride, otherwise it can quickly become uncomfortable. During the first ride you should get a feel for the board. It's similar to buying a pre-built electric skateboard: learn the steering, tighten the suspension if necessary, and test the brakes. Only then can you venture out at higher speeds without having to expect falls or accidents. You can find more tips in our forum or here in the comments section. • Meepo Hurricane Ultra

Want even more action? With the new Meepo Hurricane Ultra, Meepoboards delivers an improved version of its flagship product, the Meepo Hurricane. Read this review to find out what has changed and whether the surcharge is worth it. The board on offer: meepoboard.com/hurricane-ultra.* Deck With the Meepo Hurricane Ultra, personalization is clearly in the priority. The deck in particular offers the customer a full range of options: in addition to a fiberglass/bamboo mix, you can also choose a carbon fiber version of the Hurricane. The bamboo deck is the far softer choice. The board bends when shocked and thus dampens vibrations. With a length of 1.01m you will also find a comfortable stand on the drop-down deck. The carbon fiber deck offers a stable platform thanks to rock-hard T600 fibers - particularly advantageous for fast rides on solid ground. With both types, the truck/wheel suspension can also be selected, and a distinction can be made between normal skateboard axles and double kingpin trucks. Tires Meepo also gives you a lot of choice here: In addition to the excellent CYCLONE 165S racing tires, the slightly smaller 165x65 ZYKLON Grip tires and the 175x50 All Terrain tires are also available. The big advantage of Cyclone tires lies in their design: the wide contact surface maximizes grip and the tire provides a great spring effect even with low tire pressure. Fast curves and slightly unpaved paths are therefore not a problem. If you want the real off-road experience, you can use 175x50 AT tires. Together with the carbon fiber deck, a great off-roader is created for overcoming unpaved paths. Power In terms of motorization, the Hurricane Ultra doesn't show any particular differences - but it doesn't have to be, because: with an insane maximum output of 7000 watts, the Hurricane is pretty much the strongest board on the market at the moment. This power is achieved with dual, belt-driven electric motors. The insane performance is followed by the equally unbelievable top speed: the Hurricane covers a top speed of 51 km/h. Even if we have reached 51 km/h in our test, we would by no means recommend driving at these speeds. Even if the new Meepo board was designed perfectly for this kind of speed, at a speed of over 50km/h even the smallest of all mistakes leads in the worst case to big injuries. It is therefore essential to wear protective clothing! In addition to the belt drive, Meepo also offers a revolutionary gear drive, in which instead of a belt, gear wheels are used for power transmission. The driving experience is actually unique, as there is no loss of friction due to the belt or hub drive. In conjunction with the 7000w drive, an acceleration monster is created that is truly unparalleled. Battery A 40T 21700 battery with 691.2Wh is installed in the Meepo Hurricane Ultra, which should ensure a range of up to 50km with AT tires and up to 70km with street tires. Unfortunately, we were not able to achieve these values in our test. With a 72kg driver, we achieved a distance of approx. 38km on AT tires on a realistic ride (consisting of unpaved ground, asphalted sections of road and moderate inclines). The big difference is probably in the way Meepo tested the board for range. The manufacturers usually ride their boards under optimal conditions to determine the maximum distance. Under real circumstances, this distance that can decrease accordingly. Nevertheless, >35km in off-road conditions is an above-average range that deserves to be appreciated. The battery itself can be replaced, but a total of 18 (!) screws have to be removed to do this. So don't expect to be able to quickly change the battery after driving 35 kilometers and then continue driving. You can find the link to the replacement battery here.* ESC Meepoboards has been working with the Electronic Speed Controls from LingYi for a long time instead of the well-known Hobbywing ESCs, which are used e.g. by Exway or WowGo. And the new LY-FOC 70B is an excellent choice! Both acceleration and deceleration are equally intuitive and balanced. The control is responsive and does exactly what the user asks the board to do. This is particularly important at high speeds and when driving off-road. In addition, the ESC comes with great features such as an intelligent automatic on/off function, which switches the board on automatically when you step on it. This saves you the hassle of bending over to the power button. The ESC also provides four different braking strengths, which can be switched while driving. In addition to the different braking strengths, different driving profiles are also available, which limit the power output. Similar to a beginner mode, mode 1 lowers the power output to a minimum, ideal for cruising or for beginners. The complete opposite is driving mode 4, which provides the full 7000 watts. All in all, Meepo with the LingYi ESC is a great competitor to the Hobbywing ESC. Both controls are similarly strong in their properties, but the LY-FOC 70B is clearly tailored to the Hurricane and promotes fast driving on paved paths. Remote Meepo dared far less when it came to the remote control: It is the same remote as the Meepo Shuffle S and its predecessor. The Meepo M4S remote control is small, handy and comes with a comparatively large display for reading the driving data. Meepo briefly describes how the remote control works on their website. You can find the link here.* The advantage of an old remote control is that almost all old Meepoboards are compatible. So should the new M4S remote get damaged in the fall, all the others will work just as well as the new one. Nevertheless, a few innovations would have been welcome, especially since the Hurricane is also a completely new off-road series. Conclusion The Meepo Hurricane Ultra doesn't really offers that much of a difference in terms of performance data, but therefore in terms of personalization. The new bamboo fiberglass deck was a popular request from the community and is now available for purchase from Meepo along with more customization options. For whom the normal Meepo Hurricane is sufficient, you can actually save the surcharge of a few hundred euros. The board is perfect for the adrenaline and speed junkie looking for a new adventure. However, it might be too much for the average cruiser among us. Links marked with an asterisk (*) are affiliate links. • WowGo AT2 Plus

Ready for an upgrade? The bestseller WowGo AT2 gets a new facelift and new features for even more driving fun: we test whether the new WowGo AT2 Plus is something for you here in the E-Skateboardsgermany review! Current prices, offers on WowGo.com: www.wowgoboard.com.* With the discount code: "germany" you save 3% on your entire shopping cart! Deck The AT2 Plus uses the same deck as its predecessor, the AT2 - just with a different design. It is a 96.5cm long combination of fiberglass, bamboo and maple, each element brings its own specific advantages: The board is just flexible enough to cushion bumps and potholes, and at the same time rigid enough to provide a fast ride and to ensure a certain driving stability. The glass fibers in the board prevent the board from breaking under enormous loads. The deck is slightly curved to the maximum contact surface of the feet, you have an almost rock solid stand. This is also necessary if the board is to be ridden on unstable ground. Also, it's a drop-through deck, meaning nothing more than a center-sinking deck. This lowers the center of gravity and improves cornering. Compared to the previous model, the AT2 Plus has a much more futuristic look - with a purple rim stripe and dual taillights as standard. Tires WowGo offers you two purchasing options: the 175mm diameter pneumatic tires, or the 120mm cloudwheel tires. Thanks to the belt drive (more on this later), any tire variant can be selected, for example 80mm Orangatang wheels, any tires from iCloudwheels* etc. This also allows extensive personalization. The 175mm AT tires are perfect for urban terrain - cobblestone and light gravel paths are passable without any problems. The large diameter makes it possible to climb edges, drive over large stones and also overcome potholes. However, the tires seem quite slippery on grass and similar unpaved surfaces. Compared to the tire, the Cloudwheels are more of a street version. On asphalt, the vibrations are almost absorbed, the driving experience is great. You can also make progress on light gravel, but of course the pneumatic tires are better suited there. Power In terms of performance, the AT2 Plus seems more like a minus, because the power is actually lower compared to the previous model: With dual 1300W Hobbywing 5330 motors, the AT2 Plus delivers a total of 400W less power on paper. But do you notice a difference? In fact, you can expect about the same top speed from the AT2 Plus as the previous model - around ~48 km/h. The braking performance of the motors also remains the same, at 30km/h the braking distance is no more than 10-15m. This is important on the road, but also when driving off-road on uneven ground. One advantage of belt-driven engines is changing tires: it is quite easy to change the rollers, simply remove the belt and connect the tire of your choice to the appropriate pulley. You can find suitable tires on the WowGo website, the link to which can be found here,* and on the iCloudwheels website, the link to the site can be found here.* In the price range, the electric skateboard remains one of the best in terms of performance, even if it's a bit sobering that there haven't been any great innovations from WowGo. Battery Similar to the AT2, WowGo supplies a 10S4P 14Ah Sanyo battery with a charging time of up to 4 hours. The battery runs alongside the board, yet the deck remains flexible thanks to notches in the battery. A range of 30 km should be achievable on the AT tires, with the Cloudwheels even a range of 45 km. Depending on driving style and weight, the actually achievable distance can of course vary, but in principle 25km without any significant drop in performance is completely realistic. This means that the range at least comes close to that of the predecessor and is even slightly better. The battery cannot be changed particularly quickly, as 12 screws have to be loosened first. This makes a quick swap on the road trip quite impractical, but WowGo still offers the replacement battery for sale on the website. A link to the battery can be found here.* ESC/ Remote The WowGo AT2 Plus uses the Hobbywing control. The ESC is, as you would expect, very delicate and predictable under acceleration and under braking - important for confidence in the board. We had no disconnections and had the board under control at all times. WowGo didn't dare to do anything new with the remote control, the old WowGo AT2 remote is used again here. You will find just one button on the remote control, with which functions such as the speed modes or the direction of travel can be controlled. Nevertheless, the remote control lies well in the hand and serves its purpose. Conclusion With regard to the predecessor, not much has actually changed - with the exception of the appearance. That doesn't have to be a bad thing though, especially as the AT2 was already one of the best boards in its price range. The standard taillights and the futuristic look make the AT2 Plus quite unique, which makes it worth buying again. With the discount code: "germany" you save 3% on your entire shopping cart!
